Hello there! I am back and feeling a lot of things with my emotions all over the place. My heart is a lot fuller than it was when I began reading 'Confess' by Colleen Hoover. I don't know why, but for some reason, I was hesitant about reading books by Colleen Hoover but then I did. This one is the third book I read by her and I can't wait to share all that this book made me feel.
Confess |
Fun Fact (according to me, obviously): Before we get into the heavy stuff, and trust me when I say that there is a lot of it, let's talk about the fun stuff. Even though many will put this book in the Young Adult/ Contemporary Romance genre, the author totally resists putting a genre to her books. If you put her in a box, she will claw her way out of it. Also, this book has been turned into a TV series but I personally don't think that the depth of emotions that you will feel by reading would be replicated by watching. And no, I am not telling you to not watch it, go ahead as per your wish.
This book and its depth made me smile, laugh, shudder, grieve, cry and yes, it made my heart feel heavier.
Who Might Give This Book A Shot:
People who like Contemporary Romances, appreciate Not-So-Common Heroine and Hero, value Fresh Plots, have a thing for insta-love (kinda) and second(/third) chance romance, and want a mix of love, things which pull the lovers apart, and drama.
Who Might Like It:
A lot of people, I believe, especially those who appreciate a hero who is quite sweet and kind at times.
Who Might Not Love It:
If someone doesn't like it, I would think they are were put off by Owen's relationships that wouldn't last long and his attitude towards it. Don't go away now, please read till the end and then decide. Also, drug abuse is talked about in this book, so be prepared.
What It Is All About:
Auburn 'Mason' Reed, the heroine is in search of a job out of desperation and needs to start afresh in her life without any room for mistakes. She is shattered for she has loved too much and lost too much because of it. Hopeless but determined, she is brought to the hero's doorsteps and he offers her a job that would be the beginning of many things to come ahead.Confessions As Art
Owen 'Mason' Gentry, the hero is an artist who makes art out of confessions that people leave at his door. When Auburn walked into his studio to fill the 'Help Wanted' position, he knows fate has brought her there. He knows her but she doesn't and he keeps it a secret since it was not his to tell.
Sparks fly, resistance breaks and they can't seem to stay apart. But in order to hold whom Auburn loves the most to herself, she has to let go of Owen, who has a past that will destroy them. They will break apart, they will get hurt and Auburn will go to the man who can possible give her the future with her dearest one. Jail-time, abusive people, impossible situations, and struggling to hold onto the people they love, it will get dirty. How Auburn and Owen end up is something I won't tell you as it would be a total spoiler and I want you to have the pleasure of finding out on your own.
Which Is My Favorite Part of It:
I loved the bittersweet beginning and the ending where Owen confessed how he knew Auburn but she didn't. Despite its flaws, I love how the book portrays things and situations of love, hurt, and life in a way that is quite deep and heavy.
Which Lessons to Learn/ Not Learn:
- Confessions can be beautiful or ugly, and though they put you in a vulnerable spot, they make you feel lighter and more human.
- Don't ever let anyone take advantage of your situation.
Say 'NO' To Drugs |
- Drug abuse is life-threatening and relationship-shattering, and an absolute no-no.
- Fate might be real, believe it or not.
- Art is perhaps the most profound form of expressing emotions.
What I Rate It:
4.3/5 stars for it is yet another amazing work by the author, though not her best one. Almost everything in this book was well-written and beguiling except for a few times when Owen irked me a bit. Not to spoil anything for you, I encourage you to go ahead and read it and tell me what you felt about this book.
Also, I confess that I want to share what I feel about the other two books I have read by this author but I am a bit hesitant if I should. Please, tell me in the comments what do you wish for. Plus, I want you to make a confession here as I am a curious cat.
